There are many options available to make your teeth look better.

Veneers are used to improve the appearance of your smile by reshaping teeth and hiding discolouration.

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain that fits over the front surface of your tooth. It covers the whole of the front of the tooth, with a thicker section replacing the broken part if needed.

In order to match your existing teeth, the correct and closest shade is chosen.

Veneers can also be used  to lighten your front teeth.

If you have a tooth that is slightly out of position, a veneer can bring it into line with the others so your teeth look more pleasing. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps.

A veneer can improve the colour and shape of your teeth. Great for disguising a discoloured or chipped tooth!

In practical terms, a veneer is a thin layer of porcelain that fits over the front surface of your tooth. A precise shade can be chosen to match your existing teeth or to lighten your front teeth.

We also offer resin composite veneers, although they don’t look as nice as the porcelain, they are a much less costly option

What is involved in having veneers?

Veneers can make teeth look natural, healthy and improve your smile.

Veneers are very thin and are held in place by a special, strong adhesive. Some veneers need hardly any preparation at all.

On the first visit – a small amount of the outer enamel surface of the tooth may be removed making the tooth feel a little rough. Once prepared, we will take an impression of the tooth so that the veneer can be custom made to fit. The colour will be matched with your adjacent teeth to ensure that the veneer will look like a natural tooth.

A local anaesthetic may be used to make sure that there is no discomfort, but often this is not required.

In the second visit, the dentist then bond the veneer to the tooth.

Are there different types of veneers?

There are two types of veneers available:

  1.  Porcelain: A custom made shell is placed over the front of the teeth to create the desired appearance.   While porcelain veneers provide superior appearance, they do require the removal of some of good tooth structure.
  2. Composite: A white filling material is placed over the surface of the tooth and sculpted to the desired shape. These are the more conservative and less expensive option.
How long does a veneer last?

Veneers can last for many years. You need to take care of them as they can they can chip or break just like normal teeth. Small chips can be repaired, or a new veneer fitted if  needed.

Are there alternatives to a veneer?

Minor repairs to front teeth can have natural coloured fillings if the tooth can support a filling.Veneers are a preference so that the join between the tooth and the filling material, are not visible.
Crowns are an option for teeth that need to be strengthened.
